I've seen lots of media saying how dangerous wireless systems are today. Can hackers attack me with wireless technology?

Wireless computing Protocol (802.11b) was designed with a faulty encryption standard which wasn't known at the time of releasal. However, once the weak encryption was found, other encryption and authentication capabilities mitigated against potential hackers. WhisperWave uses three different methods to protect it's customers from potential hackers attempting to infiltrate the WhisperWave wireless network. Keep in mind that even though the network is protected, if you do not have computer protection on your personal computer then hackers have a great potential of gaining control your computer anyhow. What are my risks with wireless compared to cable, DSL, ISDN or dial-up?

Wireless subscribers have two different issues to consider: one, the wireless system used, and two the method to connect to the Internet. The first is explained in the next question. The second portion of the answer deals with the method of connecting to the Internet. Connecting to the Internet is simply how fast will you connect to the Internet. The diagram below shows the methods of connecting to the Internet. WhisperWave is shown as providing the fastest means of sending and retrieving information over the Internet within a nominal monthly cost. Other services are available, such as DSL, ISDN, dial up, satellite, and cable, but the cost ratio to the speed ratio shown in the figure below clearly demonstrates that WhisperWave provides the best ISP speed with a most competitive price around. We can provide T-1 services for home users at cost which are only available at WhisperWave!

Doesn't wireless technology interfere with my microwave and cordless phone?

All wireless systems work either from Infrared (IR) or Radio Frequency (Rf) technology. IR technology includes remote controls for television, VCR, stereos, projectors, etc., and only have a limited range. Rf technology is used by cordless phones on 2.4 MHz which is the same as wireless cards however wireless cards use the band with exclusive Direct Sequence Spread Spectrum (DSSS) technology only used for 802.11b wireless cards. The possibility of interfering with normal household appliances are not a consideration. For instance, some microwaves when turned on can cause a TV to show a "static" or "snow" effect. This will not occur with WhisperWave's network.

What is the lowest rate that I can expect?

WhisperWave is far better than any other ISP for one reason, we provide high rate of speed guaranteed. The lowest rate that any customer should expect is 784 Kbps up or download. And depending on where you are within the WhisperWave wireless network speedsto the Internet can be from 1 Mbps to 11 Mbps. The key thing to remember is the lowest speed available within the WhisperWave network is 784 Kbps!

What is the fastest rate that I can expect?

Our normal connection gateways are 1.5 Mbps T-1 line accesses throughout Northern Virginia. WhisperWave has prepared for the unexpected however and has secondary T-1 lines running as backups for 24x7 real time connectivity. We have tested our connectivity and have found that dependent upon different times of the day 1.5 Mbps is easily achievable. However, we emphasis that our guaranteed rate is 784 Kbps. In our tests, we never went below 1.5 Mbps though. Tested completed on June 30, 2003.

Will my computer be able to connect to the Internet through WhisperWave?

WhisperWave is not oriented to any specific type of operating system (OS). We will assess your computer at the time of install and configure your system for connection. The preference by customer feedback is Microsoft 2000 Professional and XP. If you wish to upgrade your computer prior to connection, we can refer you to many reputable computer manufacturers to include, Dell,Gateway, or others.
